Going through my digital hardware for the last 10 years or so, I notice I have a desktop, a laptop, and a tablet (currently in use). Also 2 old laptops also an older phone hanging around (not in use).
It is apparent now that I need to have good solid backups of current devices and dispose of / sell old devices not in use.
Desktop and all laptops are dual booted both linux and windows, which unfortunately makes straightforward backups difficult (at least for me).
My questions to HN: - How did you manage such moves in the past as it pertains to your electronic (desktop or handheld) devices ? - Are there any easy ready-made solutions to backup "whole devices" and/or "consolidate" old devices into one? - What are your recommended hardware options (any particular external hard drives that you would recommend)? - What are available recommended easy-to-use software options (disk imaging and backup software) ? - What are secure ways to safely dispose of personal data on your drives before selling/giving away/disposing of devices? - What are your preferred environmentally-friendly way to destroy old electronic devices?
